models victoria's secret fashion show 2016
We need to let you know that the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2015 will air exclusively on 4Music in the UK on TONIGHT at 9pm.
Cancel your plans guys 'n' gals.
The show aired in the US last night - they always get things first, the little scamps - but we hear that Selena Gomez cheekily slapped pal Gigi Hadid on the bum as she walked past her on the runway.
Here's a little teaser of what you can expect...
It's that time of year again. The temperature starts dropping and the colors of red and green start appearing in every television commercial. The time when I start annoying my roommate with early Christmas music and begin stressing about how I am going to buy gifts for my family when I am a poor college student. It's also when the Victoria's Secret Fashion show starts filming and I have to put on an extra frumpy sweater and stop eating cookies. The 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion show filmed this past week, showering social media with photos of beautiful models decorated in millions of dollars worth of lingerie. This years line up included the more famous Angels, such as Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldrige and Behati Prinsloo. And if that lineup wasn't enough perfection for you, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid also joined the crew this year.
While I will watch the show in December with my roommates and I will most likely say "She's Perfect" for every model that struts down the runway, I know that the life of a model is not far from perfect. There's a lot of negative stereotypes that go along with choosing modeling as a career. If you pose for a living, then you are assumed to be dumb, slutty, starving yourself, or some other demeaning label. We hear these stereotypical phrases, but we never really think about how it would feel to have people constantly assuming you are either brainless or starving yourself. Do some models starve themselves? Sure. Do some models not have the highest I.Q.? Yes. Is every person whoisn't a model some Einstein who balances a healthful diet? No way. You can't decide to label an entire group of people because of the characteristics of a few, but that is the world we live in.
Backstage at the show, reporters were running around trying to get interviews with some of the Angels before they stepped on the runway. The questions asked ranged from favorite outfit to how each model prepared for the show. One question that every model was also asked was, "What are you most excited to eat after the show?" A seemingly light hearted question on the surface, but one model decided it was time to address what this question was really saying.
Victoria's Secret model Magdalena Frackowiak did not entertain the demeaning and offensive questions asked by TMZ backstage at the show. When asked what she was most excited to eat after the show, Frackowiak rolled her eyes and said, "What? No guys, not with these kinds of questions, this is stupid! Ask more smart questions, not eating after the show." The reporter from TMZ scrambled to get back in the good graces of the model, but Frackowiak was not going to accept the insinuations behind a question about her diet. While getting her makeup done, she waved the camera away and said, "You make me look like an idiot, it seems like I'm starving myself and I can't wait for the show to end so I can eat."
While most of the other models entertained the questions asked about their diet, in order to keep the energy of the show fun and happy, Magdalene Frackowiak had no desire to play the role of the starving ditzy model. The reason this story has made the news is because Frackowiak's acknowledgment that she is being stereotyped is not a common occurrence. The press does not expect the beautiful women of the Victoria's Secret Fashion show to be anything but smiling models in pretty underwear, which is why Frackowiak's refusal to giggle and go along with a question that implies she is starving herself is shocking. Did TMZ applaud her for defending herself against the stigma of the model world and eating disorders? Nope. They went on to say the only reason Frackowiak got upset was because she was "Hangry" (when being hungry makes you angry). I guess we can't expect much from a sleezy news site like TMZ, but hopefully the rest of the world realizes that eating disorders are not a joke and you can't go around saying every model has one.
